subtle differences

It's like the game where you have to find 6 things that are different in this picture...
Notice all the interior walls, and the stack of roof trusses to the left. Since none of us knew to order a crane, we don't have one until Monday. Meantime (and that means during the weekend) they are going to frame in the porches and deck. Thanks to Mike (our building rep and new best friend), we got some copper flashing at a good price from a sheet metal place.
After the scattered showers this afternoon, we should get some good weather to dry out the house. The framing will probably be done in the middle of next week. Our neighbor, who recommended our excellent framer, has been working with the framer, but really specializes in finish work. Including having worked for the only staircase company in town. So he will help beautify the porch, and then be around for the interior work, doing trim, floors, whatever. Some good stuff should happen there.
Stay tuned...

A Crane? are sure they said a crane? Never used a crane for wood trusses before. I am trying to be as politically correct here as possable but the tears in my eyes from laughing is fogging my judgement. LOL Better call that framer back and be sure they said a crane... Later...

Anyway, looking good... I got a house to build in about a month. I am using that prefabbed foundation for the first time. Want to get it under roof prior to cold months to follow. Prices are higher to heat the work area in the winter months. With the price of kerosine and how fast turbo heaters use the fuel, it is always good to get drywall hung above 50 degrees. And paint well you know about that. alk to you soon.. Joe

You got me on this one, Joe. The middle trusses are over 30' long. I should really expect the 4 guys to lift them?
That aside, I hope you are able to stay for a minute or two when you come down :)

Yes, I can give you numerous examples. But I will give you two. My self and Liz (Stepdaughter)At 16 Helped me put up 32 foot by 6/12 trusses over a 40' span 10 feet high with one step ladder. Last year I hoisted with a rope from the exterior wall at 18 foot high 40 foot trusses and dragged them across a pick 12 inches wide for a 60 foot span. See if you think about it and saw that single truss up into a pile of wood, it only weighs about a hundred pounds. So if your framer is charging you to rent a crane then it is just out out conveinance. Perhaps a safty issue or just that he can. My laugh is that I do it by hand and so do most, of course we want a crane, just can't afford it and customers wont pay for it. However. If the walls where ready for the trusses, it is common that the truck delivering them to have a built in crane and set all trusses on wall at one time from truck to roof. Nothing personal here, I just hope they are not charging you extra for this and it is already worked in the bid. Ok... all good? Being with Rob you will find out of all the family, I am most like him and tell truth in a joke or Joke cause the truth is too heavy.. Later...
